How to play Merge Vault 2048
By SweepZone Team · Updated · 5 min read
Merge Vault 2048 takes the classic sliding-tile puzzle and splits it into stages. Every move slides all the tiles on a 4×4 board in one direction. When two tiles with the same number collide, they merge into one tile worth their sum. Two 2s make a 4, two 4s make an 8, and so on up to 2048 and beyond. Each stage gives you a goal, and clearing stages grows a multiplier that can make your final score several times larger.
Controls
- Phone or tablet: swipe up, down, left, or right on the board, or use the arrow buttons under it.
- Mouse: click the arrow buttons under the board.
- Keyboard: use the arrow keys or W, A, S, and D.
After every move, a new tile appears in a random empty square. Nine times out of ten it's a 2, and otherwise it's a 4.
Merging rules
- All tiles slide as far as they can in the direction you choose.
- Two tiles with the same value merge when they meet. A tile can only merge once per move, so a row of 2, 2, 2, 2 slid left becomes 4, 4, not 8.
- A move only counts if at least one tile moves. If nothing can move in a direction, that direction does nothing.
- The run ends when the board is full and no two neighboring tiles match, so no move is possible. On the first stage that can't happen: a full board gets its small tiles cleared for free.
Modes
| Mode | Stages | Undos | Ends when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daily Merge Vault | 10 fixed stages | 1 | The board locks up, or you clear stage 10 |
| Endless Merge | Unlimited, with goals that keep growing | 0 | The board locks up |
| Practice Merge | 1 stage: reach a 128 tile | 2 | You reach 128, or the board locks up |
The board carries over from stage to stage, so a strong position early helps you all the way through.
The Daily stages are:
| Stage | Goal |
|---|---|
| 1 | Reach a 32 tile |
| 2 | Reach a 64 tile |
| 3 | Reach a 128 tile |
| 4 | Reach a 256 tile |
| 5 | Reach a 512 tile |
| 6 | Reach 15,000 points in the run |
| 7 | Reach a 1024 tile |
| 8 | Reach 40,000 points in the run |
| 9 | Reach a 2048 tile |
| 10 | Reach 100,000 points in the run |
"Points in the run" means every point scored since the run began. Because the board and your score carry over, each stage asks for something new: a bigger tile or more points, never a goal you've already met. The Daily uses the same tiles for everyone today and is also today's Daily Challenge: clear the day's target (one stage on Monday, up to three at the weekend) and it's marked done for today. Any finished run of any game counts toward your daily streak.
Scoring
Every merge scores the value of the tile it creates, so merging two 64s scores 128. Creating big tiles adds a milestone bonus on top:
| Tile created | Bonus points |
|---|---|
| 256 | 500 |
| 512 | 1,500 |
| 1024 | 5,000 |
| 2048 | 15,000 |
| 4096 | 40,000 |
Your final score is your total multiplied by a run multiplier that depends on how many stages you cleared. It's 1.25x after 2 stages and 1.5x after 3, then 1.75x, 2x, 2.25x, 2.5x, and 3x, rising to 4x after 9 stages and 5x after all 10. Stages are worth far more than squeezing out a few extra merges at the end.
Streaks
A streak counts how many moves in a row included at least one merge. When you clear a stage, a streak of 4 or more adds a bonus to the vault: +1% at 4, +2% at 6, and +4% at 10.
The vault
The vault fills only when you clear a stage. Clearing stage 1 or 2 adds 10% each, stage 3 or 4 adds 15%, stage 5 or 6 adds 20%, stage 7 or 8 adds 25%, and stage 9 or any later stage adds 30%. Having a 1024 tile on the board adds another 10% to that clear, and a 2048 adds 25%.
| Tier | Vault needed | XP | Coins |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bronze | 20% | 50 | 25 |
| Silver | 40% | 100 | 50 |
| Gold | 65% | 200 | 100 |
| Diamond | 85% | 400 | 200 |
| Mega | 100% | 750 | 400 |
Your reward
At the end of a run, you earn all of the following:
- Your vault tier's XP and coins.
- A bonus for your biggest tile: 100 XP and 50 coins for a 1024, or 300 XP and 150 coins for a 2048.
- A reward for every stage you cleared, which grows with each stage.
- Anything from special tiles. Some new tiles carry a small coin or spark symbol, and merging them adds 5 coins or 8 XP.
It all goes to your SweepZone profile when the run ends.
Tips
- Keep your biggest tile in one corner. This is the most important habit in any 2048-style game. Our article on the corner strategy explains it in detail.
- Mostly use three directions. If your big tile lives in the bottom-left corner, favor down and left, and use right when you need to. Avoid up unless you have no choice.
- Build a descending row. Line up tiles along the edge in decreasing order, such as 256, 128, 64, 32, so each merge can feed the next one.
- Save your undo. Keep it for a move that knocks your big tile out of its corner.
- Watch the stage goal. Score stages (6, 8, and 10) reward lots of merges, so steady play beats waiting for one huge combination.
Common mistakes
- Swiping in random directions to make any merge you can see. It scatters big tiles across the board.
- Letting small tiles pile up in the corner opposite your big tile, where they're hard to reach.
- Filling the board so a single bad tile spawn locks you out. Keep at least one or two squares free when you can.
FAQ
Why didn't four matching tiles merge into one?
Each tile can merge only once per move, so four 2s in a row become two 4s. Swipe again to merge those.
Does the board reset between stages?
No. It carries over, so keeping the board organized pays off in later stages.
What's the difference between Endless and Daily?
Daily has ten fixed goals and one undo. Endless keeps setting bigger tile goals until your board locks up, with no undo.
Where is my best score saved?
